Richard Glitz

Richard W. Glitz is Technical Director of the Joint Integrated Air and Missile Defense Organization (JIAMDO), part of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Force Structure, Resources, and Assessment Directorate (J-8). A registered Professional Engineer, he oversees and directs research, development, and acquisition associated with air and missile defense. As the scientific and technical expert and advisor to the JIAMDO Director, he is responsible for developing Joint solutions to air and missile defense challenges.

Originally from Des Plaines, IL, Mr. Glitz retired from the Air Force as a Colonel after 30 years of service. He flew jet fighters in the US and Europe, including the F-111A, A-7D, F-16C, and the F-117A Nighthawk while it was still a highly classified national asset. In 1992 Mr. Glitz joined the Air Force Reserve, where his assignments included the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. In civilian life, Mr. Glitz helped develop new aerospace vehicles as an engineer at Northrop-Grumman’s Advanced Technology and Design Center and flew the Boeing 737 as a Captain for a major airline. He has logged over 12,000 hours piloting jet aircraft. Mr. Glitz earned a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering from the US Air Force Academy, a Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Idaho, and a Master of Arts in National Security Studies from American Military University. Additionally, he has completed numerous professional education courses offered by NATO, the Department of Defense, and all four military services.
